A plan is a set of decisions, not a document
Plenty of development plans are shelf decorations: long on aspiration, short on math. Ours are working tools. Every revenue goal shows its assumptions. Every strategy names an owner and a deadline. And the whole thing rolls up to a scorecard your team reviews weekly, so you know in February, not December, whether the plan is on track.
What the plan contains
- Assessment of your current program: revenue mix, donor retention, average gift trends, portfolio health, and where money is being left on the table.
- Revenue goals by stream, with prior-year comparison and the math shown: major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, institutional funders, and events.
- Strategy for each stream, specific enough to act on: named tactics, owners, and timelines rather than themes.
- A 12-month calendar integrating appeals, cultivation events, grant deadlines, and stewardship touches.
- Staffing and budget: what the plan costs to execute, what it returns, and the hiring or reallocation it requires.
- A scorecard: the handful of weekly and monthly numbers that predict success, not just report it.

Stakeholder input
Interviews with leadership, development staff, and selected board members and donors, so the plan fits the team that has to run it.
Draft and working session
We pressure-test the draft with your team, adjust the goals and assignments together, and leave with real ownership rather than polite nods.
Final plan and 90-day install
The finished plan plus a first-quarter execution sprint: scorecard live, calendar loaded, owners moving.
